“I have not photographed everything yet, but it is on my list.”

Andreas Goldmann's path in photography began in childhood with a Kodak Instamatic. At fourteen he set up his first darkroom and experimented with his father's Rolleiflex. While studying law he completed his first photographic project, a series on gas stations that was shown at a gallery in Freiburg. After a long break he returned to photography in 2017 and has since pursued both documentary and purely artistic approaches. His current work includes the series memento mori, KOI, Manus, Pictures from the Cold War, Die Insel (Frankfurt's Osthafen), Roadkill and Überall und Nirgendwo.

“I try to photograph only what I really know. I firmly believe that we should not look for the big subjects far away, consuming them as foreign, exotic motifs. The interesting subjects lie right outside our own front door. You only have to be willing to look closely enough, to observe them over a long period of time, to question them, and to try to understand them.”
