Roadkill is older than memento mori, but it belongs in the same corner. These are things we walk over every day without ever seeing them: paper, packaging, printed matter, a marking on the road — run over again and again until the traffic and the rain have pressed them flat into the asphalt.

I photograph them from directly above, print them, and hang them on the wall behind a wide white mat. And there they turn interesting. Almost beautiful. There is something of Duchamp in this, though I would never compare myself to him.

The question this series asks is the exact opposite of the one I asked of the KOI. With the KOI I wanted to know whether a photograph can improve something that is already perfect. Here I want to know whether something dirty, broken and often disgusting can be made beautiful.
