The five biggest explosions

Pictures from the Cold War

In the series "The Five Biggest Explosions" and "When We Were All Astronauts," I examine two significant themes that have profoundly influenced my childhood: the Cold War and the exhilarating race to the moon. These events were primarily conveyed to me through television during that era. Recently, I initiated a project to collect and curate a series of visuals from YouTube videos that thoroughly explore these formative events and their portrayal in the media.

To bring my feelings and recollections of this era to life, I use an exceptionally high ISO of 51,000 or higher, capturing the essence of the moments I seek to recreate. This technical choice allows me to embrace the graininess and intensity of the visuals, reminiscent of the emotions associated with these historical milestones. In post-production, I meticulously manipulate colors to evoke the feelings associated with my still-vivid yet slowly fading memories of these omnipresent subjects, aiming to transport viewers to a time filled with both tension and triumph.
